How to Manage Notification Grouping on Apple Watch

In this article, we have discussed about the ways using which you can manage Notification Grouping on Apple Watch. To prevent n number of alerts from cluttering the lock screen or complete Notification Center, Notification Grouping comes into play. If all the alerts are present in well-organized stacks according to your apps and or nature, it will be easy to navigate through and get access to any of the specific notifications needed in a bit more convenient way. Furthermore, you can also manage Notification Grouping with watchOS 7 on your Apple Watch. Doing this will help you use your preferred way of stacking the on-screen alerts. If you want the alerts to re-appear in their traditional form, you can disable the way you have stacked them.

Manage Notification Grouping on watchOS

Before we proceed on to how to manage Notification Grouping, let’s discuss the difference between By App and Automatic notification grouping so that, depending upon your requirements, you can opt for the one that’s right for you.

So, what’s the difference between By App and Automation Notification Grouping? To find the answer to this, we have listed several points you can go through. Similar to iOS 14, notifications are grouped by watchOS in two ways: By App and Automatically. In the “By App” mode, all the notifications are grouped in a single stack per app. However, in the “Automatic” mode, the notifications get stacked based upon the following nature: time, contacts, thread, discussion, and more. Hence, it totally depends on the user, which notification grouping mode he prefers to use.

Some users would like to group notifications in a single stack per app for apps related to finance, personal, activity, and expense tracking. This model provides users, convenience to check alerts in a clutter-free manner, from an app, in a single stack. It also ensures that the users don’t have to go anywhere else to find the required alerts of an app.

The other users might prefer using the “Automatic” mode, and that too mainly for the apps like reminders and news. While using the automatic mode, watchOS uses a machine-learning mechanism in order to monitor how a user interacts with the alerts and stacks the notifications to obtain a tailored experience. Depending on your preferences, the user can select his desired notification grouping style for apps. With that said, let’s get started with the steps, how the user can manage Notification Grouping on watchOS:

Choose the Preferred Style of Notification Grouping on watchOS

Please be noted that watchOS allows users to manage notification grouping per-app basis. So, you have to dig into every app in order to fine-tune its setting.

  1. First, open the Watch app on your paired iOS device.
  2. Further, click on the tab “My Watch.” You will find it on the left side on the bottom of your device’s screen.
  3. Now, press the option “Notifications.”
  4. Then, navigate to the app that is in question (the one that supports notification grouping).
  5. Post navigating to the app, you need to click on the option Notification Grouping.
  6. Finally, you need to opt from the three options listed below:
  7. Off: You can select “Off” to disable Notification Grouping for this particular app.
  8. Automatically: This mode is selected by default. However, if it has been changed previously, you can select it to allow watchOS stack notifications for this specific app.
  9. By App: You need to select “By App” if you want all your notifications to be grouped in a single stack by watchOS.

So, these were the details regarding how to manage Notification Grouping on watchOS. Now that you are well aware of the options available, you may select your preferred one that meets your requirements. With that said, it would have been of great help to the users if watchOS would have offered users to select the system-wide notification grouping style. Thankfully, Apple has brought it in watchOS 8. However, watchOS 7 has also met almost all the expectations of the users. All hail to the features like battery health, sleep tracking, hand wash detection, and more. All these features make watchOS 7 a great platform for Apple Watches.

So, what’s your opinion about the latest watchOS version? What would you prefer to see in the experience in the watchOS 8? Do let us know in the comments section below:

How to Pair your Apple Watch to a New iPhone?

Transferring data from one device to another becomes necessary if you have recently bought a new device and don’t want to lose a single file. If you have bought a brand new iPhone and want to transfer all the data from your Apple Watch, you need to pair both the devices to make the transferring procedure easy and accessible. Here’s how:

Preparing for Transferring Data from an Apple Watch to New iPhone

Apple Watch can borrow most of the files and data directly from the synced device, and thus all the contents and data are saved to the synced iTunes or iCloud service on iPhone. If you want to transfer your Apple Watch to a new iPhone, then you need to follow these steps for preparing for data backup:

iCloud and Automatic Setup

With the introduction of iOS 11.2, Apple allows the users to perform Automatic Setup for transferring all the data from your older device to a new iPhone without the hassle of un-pairing and repairing processes.

Follow these necessary tips for the data transferring process:

  • You have to ensure that your Apple Watch is currently up to date and iCloud service is properly activated for the data syncing process like health records.
  • You should take a full backup of your current iPhone just prior planning to move all your data to a new device.

Un-pair and Repair Procedure

In case you don’t want to restore your new iPhone from your old device’s backup, you can use the backup procedure. Un-pairing your wearable device can be done through the existing device. Pursue all the on-screen directions carefully for repair or un-pair procedure.

Switching the Apple Watch to a New iPhone

You should choose a compatible method for switching your wearable device to a new iPhone. Setting up an Apple Watch is as easy as other devices on the iPhone. You may follow these steps to do the same with ease:

Using Automatic Setup

Pursue these guidelines to use Automatic Setup for Apple Watch:

  • At the start, launch the Watch app on your new iPhone.
  • Now, wait for the confirmation prompt to appear, and once it comes into view, tap the Continue button. A prompt will appear with a message “Do you want to use your Apple Watch with this iPhone?”

Using Un-pair or Repair Procedure

Follow these straightforward steps to use un-pair or repair procedure for setting up your wearable device with your new iPhone:

  • Firstly, ensure that you have properly unpaired your Watch from the iPhone.
  • Then, set up your new iPhone device directly from the iTunes or iCloud backup. You may also use scratch.
  • When you have finished working for the set-up process, launch the Watch app on your iPhone. Alternatively, place your wearable device near the iPhone to let the device pop-up the similar interface screen.
  • Now, set up the Apple Watch from scratch or directly from the existing backup.

Changing Watch’s LTE Account to a new iPhone

  • First and foremost, you have to cancel your current plan for your Apple Watch by calling the existing carrier.
  • Now, pursue all the guidelines related to your new carrier to set up the new plan and also for the transferring of your earlier number, if applicable.
  • Then, set up your Apple Watch there.
  • Next, you need to add a new phone account to your wearable device.

Transferring Apple Watch to a new iPhone

Procedure 1: You can easily start from scratch on your wearable device and your iPhone if you are not an extremely health-conscious user. In this case, you will lose all your downloaded apps and health data, including GPS routes, saved workouts, achievements, and heart rate data.

Procedure 2: If you are a health-conscious user, then you can easily move them all to your new device by using a clean install procedure on iPhone and Apple Watch, but it is applicable only if you have iOS 11 or above. For this, you have to turn on the Health bar. Follow these steps to turn it on:

  • Firstly, open the Settings page.
  • Then, hit the iCloud tab there.
  • In case you have several health data saved on your device, you can wait for some time until you get each and everything synced properly. Therefore it is recommended not to erase your old device’s data before it’s done.
  • When you find that all your health data is synced properly, then follow these straightforward steps to set up your Watch:
  • Initially, pursue all the un-pair or repair guidelines to un-pair your Apple Watch.
  • Once you are all set with your new iPhone, then open your Watch app on your gadget and pursue all the instructions carefully to set up and pair Apple Watch with your iPhone.

Pairing the Apple Watch to New iPhone for data transferring procedure is not a tricky task, but one should follow some necessary steps to complete the transfer. To get started, pair both the devices and take a complete backup of all your data.
