YouTube reaches an audience globally due to its 76 translated versions. Not only this, but it also has a close caption feature that engages more people as it becomes easy for them to understand what the video is all about.
Before getting to the steps of translating your YouTube videos, let us talk about its advantages:
  • Increase your reach
Research says that by putting your videos in one specific language blocks 60% of your audience from reaching you. If you put up your content on YouTube without translating it to other local languages, you won’t be able to engage international users and hence lose your audience.
  • Helps in Search Engine Optimization
The Multilingual option can help a lot in your SEO. Keeping your search organic and reaching a wide audience will create magic altogether. Not only your content will reach a wider audience, but you also won’t have to invest in getting views.
  • Stand ahead of the competitors
By having the translation option as your priority before uploading your content, you will be truly taking advantage of a market crowd. Besides, if you are targeting an international audience, this can be a significant factor in increasing new business.
  • Better audience retention
If you translate a video in the local language of your audience, it is quite evident that they’ll enjoy more while watching it. This can also invite feedback from your visitors and lead to a discussion in the comment section, that is good for your reach.
  • Helps disabled people to understand your content
Create your content not only for privileged ones but for the people who are not able to see. Translating your videos in local languages can help people understand your content by listening to the audio if they cannot read the close captions you’ve added to your video for the audience.
Translating YouTube videos
The steps to translate YouTube videos are:
  1. In the ‘Video Manager’ window, click on the ‘Edit’ button of the video, you want to translate to another language.
  2. Select the source language of the video and choose amongst the three options provided to you:
  3. Create subtitles in YouTube
  4. Upload your file
  5. Using YouTube to get a translation ready audio transcript
Creating Subtitles in YouTube
  1. You can use a video editor to type in subtitles, as you like. By default, YouTube syncs the time limit with the sub-titles.
  2. Select the ‘Create new subtitles or CC’ option, once you’ve entered the source language.
  3. Type your subtitles using the ‘Editor’ tool and tap on the ‘Publish’ button once you’re done.
Upload a Subtitle file
YouTube permits you to add your own captions, this is especially helpful when you have a sound interpretation of the video that has just been deciphered by experts and transformed into a subtitle format.
Once you’re done setting the source language, click on the “Upload your file” button and browse your translated caption document to add. Next, tap on the ‘Publish’ button to continue.
Using YouTube to get a translation ready audio transcript
You’ll require an audio transcript of your files to carry out your video translation. This will be then sent to the language service provider with the help of YouTube to translate your video successfully.
The steps to get a translation ready audio transcript using YouTube are:
  1. Set the source language of your video.
  2. Select the target language the same as the source language and add the audio transcript to the YouTube editor.
  3. Tap on the ‘Actions’ tab and select the ’Download’ option from the drop-down menu.
  4. Now, you can send the same file to your translation company to translate the video. You can browse your file from the ‘Upload your file’ option.
  5. Since the document is taken from YouTube, it includes auto-generated timings from the stage just as the format, and this would save you some time and funds.
Be cautious, this may wind up costing you more sometimes. However, disengaging auto-produced timings from YouTube can prompt vital blunders which will, thus, do more work for the video supervisor and require broad QA.
Above mentioned were the ways to translate your video for better engagement.
Why localise YouTube videos?
By translating your video into local languages, you can engage more audience and get yourself more subscribers. With a stage that permits you to contact worldwide crowds, and to translate your content effectively, having quality confined content on YouTube is essential to remain in front of your rivals and to improve the experience of your global crowds.
