Jessica Jones’ villain Kilgrave actor David Tennant will star in the series “Around the World in 80 Days” which is an adaptation of the beloved classic by Jules Verne. The production delay had been very long (it was suspended in March because of the rising pandemic issues), but the shooting will return to action with principal photography all set to resume in South Africa and Romania.
The work will begin first in Romania before the cast and crew head towards South Africa as the international flights are currently banned in the latter country, but it will be resumed from October the 1st as suggested by the recent announcement in the country.
David Tennant will be playing the role of the explorer Phileas Fogg who takes up the challenge to travel the world in 80 days after he gets involved in a strange bet. His personal male attendant will join him on the journey. The male attendant character (Passepartout) will be played by the rising French actor Ibrahim Koma famed for doing roles in films like “Je Suis Daddy,” and “Mother is Wrong.” Abigail Fix (played by “The Crown” actress Leonie Benesch) also joins them in the journey as she does not want to miss out on an incredible story.
“Around the World” in 80 days will be brought to the screen courtesy of Slim Film + Television and Federation co-production in partnership with Palladium Pictures in South Africa, and Daro Film is helming the project as an executive producer. The producers are also in contact with France Televisions who have connected them to its offshore broadcasting partners- Germany’s ZDF, Italy’s RAI, and Australia’s Seven West Media.
The rights of the series were bought from BBC. Federation Entertainment will steer the wheel for the distribution of the film around the world.
Crawford Collins who is an executive producer on the project has recently made a statement in which he enthused about the resumption in production and also bragged about the project being a “challenging” and “ambitious” endeavour. He mentioned the amount of support that the production team requires in order to finish the job not only because of the size of the project but also due to pandemic issues. He specifically mentions the name of the writer Ashley Pharoah who has done a wonderful job in writing an amazing script. He also expressed gratitude to the entire cast and crew involved as without their consent; the resumption wouldn’t have been possible.
